Math: We have just about completed Topic 8: Numerical expressions, patterns, an relationships this week. Students have been using PEMDAS to solve numerical expressions and manipulatives to "act" out word problems.
Social Studies/ Writer's Workshop: students have just finished their fantastic colony brochures. Each group researched one of the 13 colonies and created a brochure convincing people in Europe to come to their colony. Students will begin to teacher one another about the features of their colony next week. Students are also almost done with their creative writing (narrative, poetry, drama) on the three original English colonies in America.
Reader's Workshop: Last week we began book clubs and a new read-aloud. Book Clubs featuring Savvy, The Sign of the Beaver, The Missing Pieces of Me, The Westing Game, and The Empty Mirror. As a class we learned about the author Margaret Peterson Haddix and began to read her first book in the Shadow Children Series, Among the Hidden.
Great Job to Destiny, Jenelia, and Ella for reciting the pledge at school committee this week!
